Professionalism, Honesty, and Transparency

Milestone Billing

At MBA, we don’t believe that a client should be forced into proceeding if they simply aren’t ready or life gets in the way of immediately moving forward with a new build or major renovation. It’s a big decision; we get it. At any step in the process, you can choose not to move forward to the next phase for any reason.

Additionally, prospective clients often want to know how we bill and the payment milestones along the way. This depends upon whether the client comes to us with design documents and buildable plans and whether they’d prefer to set the project up as cost-plus or fixed-fee invoicing. Our milestone billings by phase are broken down the following way:

Design Phase Payment Milestones

• Deposit: 30% Upon Acceptance of Schematic Design Proposal
• 1st Progress Payment: 30% Upon Completion of Existing Conditions and Concept Designs
• 2nd Progress Payment: 40% Upon Completion of Final Design Concept and Preliminary Budget

Pre-Con/Construction Phase Payment Milestones

• 10% deposit required upfront to secure place in schedule
• Pay as you go, first invoice billed 1 month into project
• Billed on the 15th or the 1st depending upon project start date (fixed-fee)
• Billed Bi-Weekly (cost-plus)
• Applies to both cost-plus and fixed-fee
